The 15th edition of the Anti-Money Laundering Master's Course kicks off in Milan.
The 15th edition of the Anti-Money Laundering Diploma began in Milan, at the UBI Banca headquarters in Via Monte di Pietà, with a lecture by Marco Caruso, SOS Manager at Banco BPM.
This edition of the Master's course also focuses on the IV EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive and the requirements that became operational on July 4th.
The addressees of the anti-money laundering legislation are natural and legal persons operating in the financial sector and professionals required to comply with specific obligations regarding customer verification and reporting of suspicious transactions involving money laundering or terrorist financing to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) which carries out the relevant analysis.
The Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive strengthens existing rules, but introduces several changes. First and foremost, it requires banks, lawyers, and accountants to carry out risk assessments and establishes clear transparency requirements for companies regarding beneficial ownership. This information will be entered into a central register and made available to national authorities and obliged entities.
At the same time, the directive simplifies cooperation and the exchange of information between financial intelligence units of different Member States to identify and follow suspicious money transfers for the purpose of preventing and investigating crimes or terrorist activities. It also establishes a coherent policy towards third countries with regulatory deficiencies in the area of anti-money laundering and combating terrorist financing and strengthens the sanctioning powers of competent authorities.
