The inauguration ceremony of the 28th edition of the Anti-Money Laundering Diploma of the Italian Anti-Money Laundering School was held a few days ago. The event culminated with a round table discussion entitled: “cryptocurrencies, SWIFT, international sanctions, and the shadow of cyberwar.”
The Ceremony opened with a speech by the Dean and Director of the School, who introduced the Round Table discussion with some reflections on the current socio-economic-geopolitical scenario. Professor Silvestri analyzed the spectre of stagflation and the increase in cyber attacks, then handed the floor to moderator Dr. Felice Manti (Editor-in-Chief of "The newspaper”) who introduced the prestigious speakers starting from Doctor Isabella Fontana (Head of the Bilateral Relations Office on European Dossiers at the Ministry of Economy and Finance) who spoke about the International Standards on Financial Sanctions. The second speech was given by Lawyer Dario Gorji V. (expert in export control and international economic sanctions) who continued to delve into the topic of sanctions, focusing on the economic ones and the related countermeasures applied to the Russian Federation, after him, the lawyer Fabio Carnevali (Head of the Litigation Office of the Legal Affairs and Litigation Department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance) focused on the procedure for the freezing of funds and economic resources. Prof. Giuseppe Miceli (General Accounting Office of the State of Rome) addressed the topic of Fund Tracking in the Cryptosphere, while Dr. Paolo Giardini (Information Security Consultant) discussed the interesting topic of Cyberwar, illustrating the potential risks for Italian companies.
The proceedings ended with the report by Prof. Massimo Ferracci (International expert CRA & BRA-OFAC Regulations) who explained what SWIFT is and how it works.
The inauguration was a wonderful opportunity to better understand the complex geopolitical and economic situation, learning about the dynamics connected to the above-mentioned topics from leading Italian experts on the subject.
